Gold membership
Any paid plan (from $9.99/month) makes you a Gold member. Gold members download all 1,861 models marked Free for Gold at 0 credits (fair use: 30 a day, at most 300 a month), and get credits every period for everything else.

Credits
A credit is worth about $1 of a model's price. Get credits with a plan or buy a credit pack, and use them instead of your card. Credits never expire. Free accounts can download free models (3 a day).
